Bond Information

Bail sign.Any inmate who has a bond set either by the Judge or by a bond schedule will be eligible to bond out of jail.  An inmate’s bond can be paid at any time.  Contacting a bondsman is the responsibility of either the inmate or a family member.  CASH ONLY bonds can be paid directly to the jail without going through a bondsman.  Have EXACT AMOUNT OF CASH when bonding an inmate out of jail.  NO PERSONAL CHECKS ARE ACCEPTED.

General Inmate Information

Please address all mail in the following manner:

All incoming mail must have the sender’s full name and return address on the outside of the envelope or the mail will not be delivered to the inmate.  All incoming mail will be opened by the jail staff and inspected for contraband or funds.  The only items that may be  mailed to an inmate are soft cover books (only if mailed directly from the publisher), letters, cash, money orders or stamps.  Colored pages or computer printed materials will not be delivered.  Attorney client correspondence will be opened in the presence of the inmate to whom it is addressed.

 RELEASED INMATE PROPERTY

Property of a released inmate will be given to them upon release from our facility.  If the inmate is released from another facility, the property will be held for up to one year.  Any items not picked up after one year will be destroyed.

 MONEY

Money can be placed on an inmate’s account at any time.  $10 and $20 phone cards may be purchased through jail staff at any time and are distributed to the inmates once a day. Note: Exact change is required.

 COMMISSARY

Inmates will have access to commissary three (3) times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays unless under disciplinary action for violation of a jail rule.  Commissary may not be available on select holidays.

V.I.N.E. Information

Developed in 1994 in response to a young woman’s murder, VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday) revolutionized the way crime victims access offender information and get notification on offenders’ custody status changes.  The Switzerland County Sheriff’s Office is proud to partner with APPRISS, Inc. in bringing citizens of Switzerland County this FREE service.

Indiana VINE is an innovative service providing crime victims and other concerned citizens’, free, prompt and confidential notification and status information for offenders in Indiana County Jails.

Information is provided 24 hours a day, over the phone, through the internet or by email. Indiana VINE also has live operators available to assist callers.

You may also register to receive automated messages by telephone or email when a particular offender is released, transferred, or escapes. You may register through this website or by calling 1-866-959-VINE.

Visitation Hours

 

The Switzerland County Detention Center adheres to the following hours for visitation:

8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily

The following rules for visitation must be adhered to at all times:

  1. Any former individual that has been a prior inmate in the Switzerland County Jail must have been out of jail for 45 days before they may visit anyone who is currently incarcerated.  Anyone with known pending criminal charges, on probation or parole will not be permitted visits.
  2. Voices will be kept at a moderate level.
  3. Visitors and inmates will wear proper clothing at all times during the visit.
  4. Visitors under the age of 18 will not be permitted to visit unless accompanied by a parent or guardian or can show proof of marriage to the inmate.
  5. Visitors are to conduct themselves in an orderly manner at all times or the visit will be terminated.
  6. All visits will be conducted via video visitation.
  7. No contact visits are allowed.
  8. Both inmates and visitors are limited to one 30 minute visit per day.
  9. All visits may be recorded and monitored.

 

Visitation privileges can be revoked if abused or the inmate/visitor fails to follow visitation rules and/or if the safety and security of the facility is in question.
